Tipperary Institute is the trading name of Tipperary Rural and Business Development Institute Limited, a company established by the Government of Ireland in March 1998 as a development institute that integrates higher education as a core part of its activities. The Institute has seen a remarkable increase in activity over the intervening period but it still remains in its early stages of development. The first permanent employees joined in October 1998 and the Institute opened the doors of its two campuses in Thurles and Clonmel to students in September 1999. Now the Institute serves more than 950 registered students and the services provided to businesses and community based organisations has reached thousands of people.
